Paul ’t Hart is hoogleraar Bestuurskunde aan de Universiteit Utrecht en vice-decaan van de Nederlandse School voor Openbaar Bestuur. Daarnaast is hij als programmaleider en docent verbonden aan de Australia New Zealand School of Government. Van 2005-2011 was hij hoogleraar politicologie aan de Australian National University in Canberra. Van 2002-2005 was hij naast zijn twee Nederlandse aanstelling ook adjunct professor aan het Swedish Defence College in Stockholm. Zijn onderzoek en onderwijs richten zich op leiderschap, crisismanagement, besluitvorming, groepsprocessen, succes en falen en verantwoordingsprocessen in het openbaar bestuur. Hij schreef en redigeerde daarover meer dan dertig boeken, waaronder recentelijk het Oxford Handbook of Political Leadership (met Rod Rhodes), Oxford University Press 2014 en Understanding Public Leadership, Palgrave 2014. Hij werd in 2014 gekozen tot lid van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie voor Wetenschappen. Hij treedt op tal van plaatsen binnen en buiten de overheid op als docent, inleider, onderzoeker en adviseur. Hij is lid van de Commissie Evaluatie Politiewet, die in 2017 rapporteert.
